2019 Charity Beneficiaries

We're very proud to support and partner with some of the most deserving and worthwhile nonprofit organizations, all of which are dedicated to improving the lives of young people and their families. As a Stars & Stripes beneficiary, charities not only receive much-needed financial assistance – which they can use to expand their programs – but they are also able to increase public awareness about their cause and mission through the S&S network. Learn more about this year's beneficiaries below.

The Big Brothers Big Sisters Mission is to provide children facing adversity with strong and enduring, professionally-supported one-to-one relationships that change their lives for the better, forever. Our Vision is successful mentoring relationships for all children who need and want them, contributing to brighter futures, better schools, and stronger communities for all.

Miracles for Kids is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit serving children with life-threatening illnesses and the families that care for them. By operating programs that provide financial aid, basic needs and wellness to patients and their families, Miracles for Kids creates stability when families are crumbling from the financial and emotional devastation of fighting for their child's life. The mission of Orangewood Foundation is to prepare foster and community youth to reach their greatest potential. We were founded in 1981 and today are one of the leading providers of services to these youth. Orangewood programs focus on four critical areas: basic needs, housing, life skills & employment, and education. In 2013, we expanded our educational programs with the opening of Samueli Academy, a free public charter high school for community, underserved and foster teens. Annually, Orangewood Foundation serves almost 2,000 foster and community youth.

Tilly's Life Center (TLC) is a youth-focused, 501(c)(3) nonprofit charitable foundation aimed at empowering all teens with a positive mindset and enabling them to effectively cope with crisis, adversity and tough decisions. Our mission is to inspire today's youth to reach their full potential as productive, kind, happy, and responsible individuals. The TLC program empowers teens by teaching them life skills that build confidence, inspire compassion, and encourage them to pursue their dreams. Our courses incorporate art, education, and honest communication to convey meaningful and important topics relevant to teens in a safe, caring environment.

South Bay Community Services (SBCS)

South Bay Community Services (SBCS) provides San Diego children, youth, and families with services that reinforce the family’s role in our community and assist them to lead self-fulfilling lives. Programs center on child and youth development, assisting youth aging out of foster care, family self-sufficiency initiatives, and improving educational outcomes for students. Their flagship program, Mi Escuelita, is a therapeutic preschool program for children ages 3-5 who have been severely traumatized by family violence. Mi Escuelita is the only program of its kind in Southern California, and is designed to help break the cycle of violence, help children heal, and put them on a path to a lifetime of learning. As rates of family violence increase, their waitlist grows. They have but a brief and exceptional window of opportunity to help these children. Through Mi Escuelita, SBCS is helping San Diego’s most vulnerable succeed, thrive, and reach their highest potential.

Building Baja's Future (BBF) is a nonprofit organization based in Baja California Sur, Mexico. BBF is a world-class organization committed to helping educate bright, ambitious teenagers determined to overcome limited opportunities to reach their full potential as individuals and become community leaders. BBF is also a nonprofit corporation incorporated in California. These designations allow BBF to grow through the support of its friends and supporters.

Plasticos Foundation, a non-profit organization, is dedicated to improving the lives of children through reconstructive plastic surgery in underdeveloped countries worldwide. By performing surgery free of charge for children with traumatic injuries and correctable deformities, the volunteer medical teams save them from a life of profound suffering and possibly death.

The HALO for Freedom Warrior Foundation® is a 501©(3) Non-Profit Organization dedicated to Our Wounded Warriors. Our mission is to provide support for Wounded Warriors as they face the many challenges encountered during their rehabilitation, reintegration and healing process. We will support the principles of the Constitution of the United States of America and our service members who have always upheld these values. The Foundation’s goals are to ensure wounded military members are cared for both physically and emotionally. We will leave no service member behind and will work diligently to prevent senseless veteran suicide. By including wounded members in various Foundation-sponsored events we aim to motivate, encourage and afford them opportunities they might not otherwise have had. The Foundation’s focus is to lift their spirits while reminding them that their sacrifices will never be forgotten. God Bless Our Troops.
